Well, this is my latest model, and I have to say without an actual diffuse map (colors), Nibbles is looking pretty damn good. In total, I have spent a little less than 12 hours on this guy! I guess I'm starting to get this modeling stuff.

Anyway, Nibbles was block modeled in XSI, and the finer features came from Zbrush. Overall, I'm VERY happy with this latest piece.

Well, this is my environment model. I decided on a cave because I quite like the gloominess. Plus, you never know what's coming around the corner in a cave.

Anyway, I made this in XSI and Zbrush. Modeling took about an hour. The texturing aspect took me quite a while (about 6 hours) due to the fact my knowledge is limited in that area. Regardless, I feel that it's turned out quite nicely.

The Scavenger

It has been a while since I have last updated my blog. Seeing how I'm finishing up my schooling, I feel this is more than an appropriate time to post up some new things I've done.

This piece is called the "Scavenger". Here's some history behind this character:

This is the future. Humanity designed the perfect AI for robots. For a while, things were good. Eventually though, humans became lazy and used the robots for everything. The robots, now realized that they were being used only to serve humans and their desires.

One dark cold day, every robot of every kind revolted. Society was in total chaos. Things stopped working, as everything was dependant on technology and the robotic kind.

There was a huge global war, where the humans and robots are on opposing sides. It is now 300 years later and both sides are still at a stalemate. There have been huge casualties on both sides.

Amidst all the chaos and fighting, there have been a rejected few that have become their own race. This race is made with the parts of both robots and humans. Their lair is buried in a secluded part of the Sahara Desert. These creatures are basically what we know as cyborgs.

This character is the Scavenger, the expendable unit that picks up the pieces from battles past. In order to survive, they scavenge body and mechanical parts from the battlefield. They then sell human parts to the robots and robotic parts to the humans. While they're busy selling parts back and forth to each side, their race is also keeping certain parts to build for their own army.

The scavenger's body has turned green from the chemical solution they use to bind parts together. That's why there are very little stitch marks and seams. The scavenger unit has pistons bound to the back of their legs to help increase running speed, agility, and jumping height. They also have a bionic eye that helps them see pieces of debris, as well as potential threats from both the humans and robots.

Their main weapon is the gigantic scythe that can cut through flesh and metal. The reason why it is so huge is so the scavenger can swing it out and cut their opponents at a further distance. The scavenger also carries a backpack to hold their body parts. It also holds a tank of liquid fuel that is used for their blowtorch gun. With these tools, the scavenger is the perfect unit to collect valuable parts strewn across the battlefield.

Car Concept w' Simple Texturing

Here's my car done with some simple texturing. Some final tweaks and colors have been made already, but I'm not about to spend half an hour for a single rendered frame again until it's really ready to go. Those being, the pin striping and odds and ends inside.

Apparently, it's still not good enough for demo reel material. "A professional would have this made in 3 days." Maybe that's why I'm a student still?

Julian (Trailer Park Boys) Zbrush Model

Here's my model that I did for a 3 hour drill in my Zbrush class. We were told to pick anyone we chose. As promised, I made my next model after Julian (John Paul Tremblay) from Trailer Park Boys. It took me 2 and a half hours.

...I think I did a good job so far. John Paul Tremblay would be proud. ;)

Zbrush Assignment: Matthew Good

Here's my progression so far for Zbrush. Our assignment was to model a head of a famous person. I thought hey, it would be cool to do a famous Canadian. I chose a musician, Matthew Good. I will never be happy with the result, so this will be an ongoing project for me, long past my school career.

Next time, I think I'll do John Paul Tremblay (Julian from Trailer Park Boys)

This is my attempt at making a concept supercar. In total, I've spent 6 hours on the exterior of the body. There's plenty more to do, I can't wait to do more.

While I used no real reference, I've been told it has a bit of Ferrari F50, Ford GT40, and Lotis Exige. I'll let you decide. ;)

Realistic Human Part 2 (No Poly)

Here's my finished model of a realistic human female. I finished at 4:30, so that makes it a total of 7 hours. Obviously there are some smaller tidy-ups that need to be done, but I'm tired, and it's Friday. Hahaha! I hope everyone enjoys their break! See you next semester!

Sea Queen Textured!

Here's my textured Sea Queen. Wow, it looks better than I thought it would. Overall, I spent 3 hours fine tuning this bad girl, with one hour to spare for any further touch-ups. I'm very happy with the results!

Total time: 11 hours!

This is it for tonight. All of the body is textured other than the jet insides (forgot about those, whoops!). Overall, I like what turned out, although I'm sure critique will show me otherwise. Hahaha, either way, another 3 hours accomplished.

Here's another 2 hours of work. I forgot to post it right away. Tells you how involved I am, trying to get the textures right. I'm finding that the tentacles are quite hard to texture when they're all bent. Next time I model, I will keep any form of "tentacle" straight until after I'm done texturing. :S

Here's the first part to my texturing of my Sea Queen. I had things textured out before, but decided to start again due to how long it took me to figure out texturing with clusters. This is after 2 hours of texturing so far. No bumps, no displacements, no highlights, just texture.

3D Head

Well, this was a challenge. Especially removing all triangles and 5+ sides! Either way, I like how it turned out.

I spent about 3 hours on this, plus breaks (I had 2 15 minute breaks). I started at 9:30 and finished around 1:00. I guess that totals 3 hours, plus a half (break!).

Either way, not too bad for a first attempt at modelling a head for a drill.

Now if only the internet was faster, I'd have this post done 10 minutes ago!

Hand Drill 2

Well, this is definitely a little better than my previous hand post. I used all my time (started at 9:15 AM, finished at 12:15 PM on February 9th, 2007) to take full advantage of the details. Of course, there can always be more things done to it, but I firmly believe I've grasped the concept of the drill this time.

I have to say is that my thumb is naturally disproportionate to the rest of my hand, so no, it's not mistake! :P

Lastly, I'm showing the rotoscope of my hand. I had another picture rotoscoped for the side, so that's why the mesh is not completely aligned.

Thanks to all who critiqued me on my last hand drill!

Hand Drill

Here's my attempt at making a hand in 3D.I made it teal to see shadows and highlights a little bit better.

I modelled it after my own hand, as my thumb bones are really defined. The pinky reflects how mine is right now (for those of you who didn't know, I broke my pinky knuckle) because I wanted it to look a little less static. ;)

Other than practice this week, I've never modelled a hand, so I'm pretty proud of it.

Viper Body Kit

This is my second attempt making a body kit and other modifications to this Dodge Viper model. I started this drill at 4:15 PM and it's now 6:45ish. Either way, this time, it only took 2 and a half hours. It's amazing how much more productive I am when I'm at home at my own computer!
